Member Spotlight: Brian Patrick
From the word “join,” Brian Patrick, Principal at The Sextant Group, Inc., has jumped in with both feet, email and phone in-hand. This is his first year on the Education committee and his input has already proven beneficial not only for our planning group but for the chapter. Instrumental in securing three speakers for the Boot Camp series, he has brought good ideas to the table for discussion and implementation.
Brian says “joining the Education Committee and staying involved in SMPS added a much-needed facet to my responsibilities for business development and professional growth. We’re all busy, but I think we’re all looking for ways to make ourselves a little bit sharper at what we do. . . The best part about being on the committee is assessing the needs of our SMPS members and delivering relevant educational opportunities for them. Most of our firms – being service providers – are paid to solve problems for our clients. The Education Committee strives to fill that need for our members. Knowing the challenges our peers are going through helps all of us gain perspective and maintain relevance, if not giving us an edge outright. We’ve all been to great seminars that stick with us . . . seen great presenters that inspire us. Bringing those encounters to our SMPS Atlanta members is our goal on the committee. If you’re like me, you’re extremely busy these days finding and responding to the opportunities in the market. I don’t have the time to set aside for marginally-relevant programs. What we’ve seen in survey responses is a strong desire to have current topics addressed by knowledgeable speakers. Finding those passionate industry leaders who are excited to share their experiences with us has been rewarding.”
