Speakers
W.L. Stanton Stafford, PE, LEED AP BD+C, Newcomb & Boyd
Mr. Stafford is a Senior Associate and Director of Energy and Sustainability Services for Newcomb & Boyd. Mr. Stafford received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Virginia and has more than a decade of mechanical engineering and project management experience in the design and construction industry. His background includes building energy modeling, sustainable design consulting, commissioning, and the design of energy efficient building systems for new and renovated office buildings, healthcare facilities, academic buildings, and governmental facilities. Mr. Stafford is the Handbook Subcommittee Chair and a Voting Member of ASHRAE’S Technical Committee TC 7.6, Building Energy Performance, as well as a Voting Member of ASHRAE Technical Committee TC 7.8, Owning & Operating Costs. He is also a Green Globes Professional and the Chair of the Atlanta Branch Outreach Committee of the U.S. Green Building Council – Georgia Chapter.
Panelists
Lauren Dufort, Central Atlanta Progress
Ms. Dufort’s sustainability expertise has come from over five years of promoting and improving sustainability efforts in her professional endeavors. During her time employed at Cousins Properties, Lauren specialized in researching sustainability opportunities and applying various USGBC LEED rating systems to multiple property types, including office, retail, industrial, and multi-family properties. Prior to joining CAP, Ms. Dufort was employed in the private sector where she provided LEED project management and carbon emissions inventory management for both public and private organizations with large real estate portfolios. In her current role as the Director of Sustainability at Central Atlanta Progress, Ms. Dufort develops and implements various sustainability programs through collaboration with the City of Atlanta and the Downtown business community. Such initiatives include the Downtown GreenSource program and the Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge.
P.J. Newcomb, Georgia Environmental Finance Authority
In his capacity as State Utilities Program Engineer with the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority, Mr. Newcomb works with state agencies on the State Energy Leadership Initiative, also known as the “Energy Challenge,” to reduce state agencies’ energy use intensity 15% by 2020 when compared to a 2007 baseline. The state owns more than 15,000 facilities covering 140 million square feet with an annual utility expenditure of over $200 Million. Mr. Newcomb works with agencies on energy use baselining and tracking, strategic energy management planning, energy performance contracting, and technical training. He has also been intimately involved in the implementation of $65 million in federal stimulus (ARRA) funds for energy efficiency projects in state facilities. Mr. Newcomb is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology where he earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a Master of Science degree in History of Technology.
Mr. Marlow’s firm develops, designs and installs solar energy systems for solar electric PV, solar thermal hot water STH for commercial, utility and residential applications, helping to save money and reduce environmental impact. Mr. Marlow has more than 25 years of sales and marketing experience with companies including Lotus Development, IBM, and Yahoo. He is the founder of Internet startup Anything Southern.com, and was a candidate for U.S. Congress in the 10th District of Georgia. Mr. Marlow is on the board of directors of the Georgia Solar Energy Association and the TAG SmartGrid Society, as well as the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Energy and Environment Committee. He also serves on the Board of Advisors of the Savannah Riverkeeper and the Million Mile Greenway.
John McFarland, WorkingBuildings
John McFarland is the Director of Operations at WorkingBuildings, an Owner’s representative firm providing comprehensive solutions for facilities from planning to operation. John has more than 18 years of experience designing, constructing and commissioning building systems. He has served as the LEED® consultant and commissioning authority on over 80 projects, and most recently has led his team in the development of a greenhouse gas emissions tracking software. A former member of the USGBC LEED Faculty™, he serves as Vice Chair of the Indoor Environmental Quality Technical Advisory Group. John served as the president of the Atlanta Chapter of ASHRAE for 2009. He is also an active participant in shaping ASHRAE guidelines at a national level, serving as vice-chair of the SSPC 62.1 committee for maintaining ASHRAE Standard 62.1 Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality. John is a registered Professional Engineer in Georgia, as well as several other states. He is a Certified Commissioning Provider, a Certified Energy Manager, a LEED Accredited Professional and a member of the Building Commissioning Association.
